It's important that you replace your water filters regularly. How often, you ask? Well, that depends on your water supply and which filter we're talking about. Let's take a look below.

When to Replace Your Filters
If your water supply is softened, we recommend replacing the Pre/Post Filters every 6 months. If it's not softened, you may need to replace your filters sooner. How will you know? You'll notice slower water flow (from deposits and build up in the filters) when they need to be replaced. On some models, you'll notice an LCD light flashing on the faucet base to remind you that it's time to change the filter.
For your reverse osmosis systems, we recommend changing the center Membrane cartridge every 1-2 years. Again, that's if your water is softened. If your water is not softened, you may need to replace it sooner. How will you know? The best way would be to test the water by using a TDS meter.
How to Replace Your Filters
Note: There's no need to turn off your water supply. In fact, each filter connection has an auto shut-off that stops water when you remove a filter.
1. Go ahead and find the filter closest to the water supply line and remove your filters in order. To remove each filter, you need to grab hold of the bottom of the filter and turn it counter-clockwise (like pictured below.)
2. Discard the old filters properly (check with your local recycle center for recycling options).
3. Now, you’ll install the new filters in reverse order. So, start with the filter closest to the faucet and work backwards this time. Grab the bottom of the filter, turn it clockwise to attach into the system (like pictured below.)
4. If your filters came with a replacement battery, remove the screw on the side of the faucet base. Put a new battery in the compartment and replace the screw. This sets a 6-month timer for your next filter change - remember - depending on your water supply you may need to replace the filters sooner.
5. Now it's time to "purge" the filters/system. Purging the system allows any loose activated carbon particles to be flushed from the new filters so that you have clean clear water. If you don't purge the system you'll notice your water will be black in color.
- If you have a purifier or filtration system: Turn the drinking water faucet on and leave it on for 10 minutes.
- If you have a reverse osmosis system: Refer to our article How to Purge Your Reverse Osmosis System.
