Did the filter pop off your system? This can happen if a filter has a defect or there may be a problem with the threaded section of the manifold or head assembly. Let’s walk through a couple troubleshooting steps to fix this.
Below we have two different types of systems:
Reverse Osmosis
Dual Stage & Purifier Filter
First, you’ll want to check to make sure the filter is screwed in all the way. You can confirm this by twisting the cartridge to the left to remove it and then reattaching it back on by twisting it to the right, all the way until it stops. You should be able to feel it as it clicks into place. If it’s not on correctly, that can cause it to pop off. If you’re having trouble getting it on all the way, you can turn off your water supply to the system, which will stop the water pressure, and that should help you be able to secure it more easily.
We’ll need to identify if it’s a defective filter, manifold, or head. To do this, you’ll need to do a little experimenting by swapping out the filters.
For a reverse osmosis system, try to swap the pre and post filters (refer to picture above) to see if the same cartridge pops off when it’s connected to another spot on the manifold. Those 2 filters are inter-changeable. If the filter pops off when in the other spots, it’s most likely that the filter is defective, and we recommend replacing it. If both filters pop off from the same spot, it’s most likely that the manifold is defective and needs replacing. Check out our article What Is My Warranty, to see if you're still covered. Otherwise, replacement parts can be purchased here.
For other systems, you can try to swap any of the filters to see if the same cartridge pops off when it’s connected to another spot on the head. If the filter pops off when in the other spots, it’s most likely that the filter is defective, and we recommend replacing it. If you notice that each filter pops off in the same spot on the head, it’s likely that the head is defective, and we recommend replacing it.
