Have you noticed your RO tank isn't filling? Don't worry. We're here to help. Let's go through some troubleshooting steps below to get the tank filling and back in working order again.
Before You Start
- You'll want to make sure your incoming water pressure is at least 40 psi. Anything below 40 will hinder the performance of the system.
- Also confirm that your Pre/Post filters have been changed in the last 6 months, and middle membrane in the last 2-3 years. If they haven't been changed in those time frames, we recommend replacing them.

Step 1
We'll need to make sure water is traveling through the filters.
1. Remove the Prefilter (top filter) from your unit by grabbing the filter and turning it counterclockwise. The other filters can stay in right now.
2. Look into the housing where you removed the Prefilter from. With your face out of the way, push the Prefilter poppet stem here and watch for a spray of water.
Did you get a spray of water?
- YES - Remove the Membrane (middle cartridge) and then reattach the Prefilter. Continue to step 2.
- NO - The water supply is either turned off or there may be a clog in your green supply line. Check these and reattach the Prefilter once you get a successful spray.
Step 2
Next, we'll check water flow through the prefilter.
1. Go ahead and push the poppet stem at the Membrane connection (middle) and watch for a spray of water.
Did you get a spray of water?
- YES - Remove the Prefilter. Then reattach the RO Membrane. Now, reattach the Prefilter and continue to step 3.
-
NO - Remove the Prefilter and set aside. Remove the Postfilter and screw it into the Prefilter position. Now push that same center Membrane poppet stem again and watch for a spray:
- If there is a spray, the Prefilter that you set aside is clogged and needs replacing. Check out our Filter Replacement article.
- If there is still no spray, the Diaphragm on your system needs replacing. You can find instructions on purchasing replacement parts here. Otherwise, if you'd like to check your warranty, visit What is My Warranty?
Step 3
Lastly, we'll test water flow through the RO Membrane.
1. Go turn on your RO faucet and let it drain until the tank is completely empty.
2. Now, grab a bowl and unscrew the yellow hose from the top of the storage tank, and place the end of the hose in a bowl. You may want to hold a towel around the hose as you unscrew, in case there is any extra water pressure.
3. Wait a few minutes and watch for a consistent drip or stream to flow through the yellow hose into the bowl.
Is there consistent water production?
- YES - Reattach the hose and follow the instructions in our Repressurizing the Storage Tank article.
- NO - Confirm that you've changed the Membrane in the last 2 years. If you have, then visit our Flow Control article. If not, we recommend replacing the Membrane. Check out our Filter Replacement article.
